Hi everyone, I don’t know if I am the greatest salesperson in the world but I’m thinking it would be fun to enter this contest. The Search for the World’s Greatest Salesperson. Is anyone interested in sharing their thoughts with me?

Not Just for the Money but Also What we Become in its Making

I was asked a few weeks ago to give a talk to some bright students who were graduating from the MBA program at Thompson Rivers University (TRU). I thought I’d also include my thoughts here on my blog.

I started with saying that I believe I’ve learned six key principles for achieving entrepreneurial success. I also said I’m confident that when you choose to follow and implement these fundamental tenets you will not only achieve success in business but also in life. To quote my friend and business mentor, Tom Matzen, you will “Earn Twice As Much With Half the Stress!

Surprised by some energy consumption trivia

Over the holidays I started to think about how I was going to make a difference in 2010. What would my new year’s resolutions be? Considering I have a larger than normal “Carbon” footprint than most (with my Christmas lights – even though they are LEDs) I thought it might be good to find ways to cut down my energy consumption or at least look for renewable energy alternatives. I got a couple of surprises while I was reading.

Like it or not your business is involved in Social Media

If you have a company of your own (or you work for one) then whether you like it or not you’re involved in Social Media. People are talking about your business on the Internet regardless of whether you’re part of the conversation. So, wouldn’t it be better to be involved?

Internet Marketing – E is for Engage (M.A.R.K.E.T.)

Here is my second post in a series of articles on Internet Marketing. Each post focuses on a letter in the acronym M.A.R.K.E.T. which I “coined” to help people better understand some of the factors for success when considering an Internet marketing strategy for their business. In my last post M was for Merchandise and now E is for Engage. I know that I am not doing them in order BUT the A is for Advertise is taking longer than I had hoped in an effort to make it easy to understand but still effective… hopefully A will be my next post.

The Google Monopoly – How to Monopolize Google and Market Your Business.

I’ve been trying to think of ways to simplify and better explain marketing a business through Google. How do I cover all of the marketing techniques and considerations? What does it all mean? What should I focus on? Search engine optimization (SEO)? Pay-per-click (PPC) or sponsored listings or search engine marketing (SEM)? Social Media!? Google OneBox? Google local results? YouTube? Twitter? Blogs? Ahhhgh!!%$#@!!

On my way to Toronto

Internet Marketing – M is for Merchandise (M.A.R.K.E.T.)

Over the next couple of weeks I will be posting a series of articles on Internet Marketing. Each post will focus on a letter in an acronym I’ve put together (M.A.R.K.E.T.) to help people better understand some of the factors for success when considering an Internet marketing strategy for their business. For this post M is for Merchandise.

Update on Christmas Lights in Kamloops

On Tuesday night I had my first parent stop this year (that I know of) and take a picture of the kids on the lawn with the Christmas lights. Put a few more displays out last night and I’m going to try and do the boat in the driveway on the weekend.

Watching the advertising industry is fascinating and scary all in one.

Some days it’s like watching the TV reality series “Intervention” where all of the newspaper, radio, and TV media companies would be the proverbial drug addicts strung out on cocaine. It would be amusing, if it wasn’t so disturbing, to listen to all of the ongoing excuses, watching managers avoid the hard decisions, observing all of the politics. What a show!

Going overboard on Christmas lights in Kamloops and loving it!

For those who know that I love boating, please pardon the pun, but once again, I’m going overboard on Christmas lights at the house. I’ve done about 100,000 lights so far with another 50,000 still to go. Don’t ask what the electric bill is… all I’m saying is … at least they are energy efficient LED lights. … click on the link to read more :-)
